The short answer

The best spa days in London are at Aire Ancient Baths in Covent Garden, ESPA Life at Corinthia, the Guerlain Spa at Raffles London and The Dorchester Spa, with Ironmonger Row Baths as a simpler, historic alternative. The right choice comes down to whether you want a long soak, a skilled treatment or simply a very pretty place to relax for the afternoon.

Big hotel spas

ESPA Life at Corinthia, near Embankment, is one of the largest hotel spas in the city, with several floors and a good thermal area. The Guerlain Spa at Raffles at The OWO has been praised as one of London's most extensive. The Dorchester Spa on Park Lane brings Art Deco style and strong treatment menus, and the Bulgari Spa in Knightsbridge is sleek, stone-clad and home to a beautifully tiled pool. Akasha at Hotel Café Royal on Regent Street has a pool, hammam and sauna, and it is built around the four elements. The Four Seasons at Ten Trinity Square, close to the Tower, has a calm Roman-inspired spa.

Baths and something different

Aire Ancient Baths is built around a series of candlelit pools at different temperatures, in the style of old Roman baths, in a converted building near Covent Garden. Couples often like it, as you can spend the session together. Lumi Spa at the Courthouse Hotel in Soho is a more central, easy option. For something closer to the old London tradition, Ironmonger Row Baths in Islington has historic Turkish baths, with a spa that reopened in 2024 after a fire. It usually costs a lot less than a grand hotel.

Booking your day

Most spas sell packages that combine time in the thermal rooms with a treatment and perhaps lunch or afternoon tea, and these can be better value than booking separately. Weekends book up first, so a midweek visit is often quieter. Check age limits, session lengths and what is included, and tell them about any health conditions or pregnancy in advance. Prices and rules vary and change often, so confirm directly with the spa.

Combine your visit with our afternoon tea guide for a very pleasant day. If you would enjoy a relaxed evening afterwards, dinner dates are listed on many of our ladies' profiles.
